It’s exciting to watch the northern edge of downtown, aptly named Industry Hill, grow and thrive! This area is the newest phase of downtown Winston-Salem’s revitalization.
Big Winston Warehouse, on the corner of 8th and Trade Streets, is a renovated 1939 tobacco warehouse. Just like many other areas of downtown, the building’s role in the tobacco industry is a thing of the past. Today, the building houses brewers, distillers, chocolatiers, creatives, and craftsmen!
These neighbors don’t have time to compete with one another. They’re too busy collaborating with one another and turning the Northern part of downtown into a weekend destination.
Fiddlin’ Fish, a local brewery, pours a stout beer that features Black Mountain Chocolate. They brew it with fresh cocoa nibs, roasted right across the parking lot!
Black Mountain Chocolate regularly sells out of “Big Winston Chocolate Fruitcake”. It’s filled with their very own dark chocolate chunks, toasted pecans, and brandied cranberries, and generously soaked in Broad Branch Distillery’s NIGHTLAB 1.0, which is distilled just a few doors down.
Broad Branch shares a loading dock with their friends at Fiddlin’ Fish. You can find both teams sipping on a Sunshine right out of the can or paired with their Rye Fidelity.
Sunshine Beverages collaborated with Fiddlin’ Fish, Black Mountain Chocolate, Broad Branch Distillery, and Sunnyside Mercantile (sister company to Sunnyside Millwork) on a Hometown Holiday Giveaway. Their goal? To make spirits brighter and spread holiday cheer (of the Winston-Salem variety!).
Crossing over 8th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, you’ll find even more entrepreneurs and entertainers. Check out The Ramkat for live music. Wise Man Brewing is the place to find award winning beer. If you’re looking to sip bourbon or eat delicious Southern food, Earl’s is your spot. Consider yourself a maker? Head over to MIXXER to cut & weld. If you’re up for a bit more of an adventure check out Rock Box Bouldering, Axe Club of America, or the Winston Cup Museum. All of this and more can be found in Industry Hill, and in the spirit of the City of Arts & Innovation, they are all working together!
Industry Hill’s latest addition is the Winston Junction Market. This innovative open-concept indoor market is tucked inside a converted warehouse on 9th and Trade Streets. Browse fresh flowers, local produce, and artisan goods, or enjoy some local food and on the beautiful large wooden tables (built by Sunnyside Millwork!) that occupy the space. You can spend your Saturday morning mingling with makers, artisans, farmers, and producers. You can even get your weekend workout in there with their new Sweat Series. The market is a can’t miss destination every Saturday from 11am-2pm!
Industry Hill continues to grow and evolve! The community that is being created here is an incredible addition to our downtown. I can’t wait to see what’s on tap next!
